Give Thanks and Celebrate!

Hello, Hello, Hello,

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means Christmas is around the corner, which means 2011 will be on us in no time at all.  All I can say about that is, "Holy Moly", I have got to get in gear!  I need to make some lists and check them twice.

I know some of you have your Black Friday lists all mapped out, game faces on, and a memorized plan of attack.  Don't mess with a shopper.  With all of your victory strategies planned, don't forget a workout.  Check out our Holiday hours!  We will be here waiting for you!

We have a few groups of members running in the Mid-Valley Road Race on Thanksgiving day.  If you seem them racing, give them a wave or even a holler.  But, please don't hit them with your car, no matter how much they are begging you.  Just kidding, I know these members are tough and have trained for this race.  They have even decided what times they would like to get and how to display their ribbons as ostentatiously as possible during Thanksgiving Dinner.  Some may discreetly lay them on the counter for all of their friends and family to fawn over.  While others will be proudly pinning them to their chests for all to see and drool over.  Ribbons and times really don't matter, what matters is their effort.  They are lacing up their shoes and tackling a personal goal and a nice size hill too!  Way to go all A.A.C. runners and walkers!

Speaking of running and walking...we have new treadmills on the way!  We have finally found a brand of treadmills that have new technology, but are still simple to use.  We don't need 75 optional ways to run at 6 mph, most of us just want to get on and get going.  I think these treadmills are versatile enough to work with all of our member's needs.  Look for those soon.

The Giving Tree  will be changing a bit this year.  We will have tags from a trio of non-profit groups.  Safe Haven will have multiple types of tags.  Fish will have tags, for child p.j.'s.  Lastly, ABC House will have tags for new board games.  So, make sure you adjust your shopping plan to help out one of these non profits.  More info on this will come in the next blog update.

Well, I tried to keep it simple this week.  Just the facts, and not so much blah, blah, blah.  We are all busy this week and we don't have time read!  We have turkeys to thaw lists to make and family to celebrate.  So, go forth and tell someone that you are thankful for them today.  Don't forget that this holiday is not just about turkey and the sock sale at Freddies.  It is about celebrating all of the wonderful things in our lives, and celebrating the not so fun things that we have survived and have helped us to become the people we are!

Eat some pumpkin pie for me---then go for a walk!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Hours

Happy Veterans Day!

Please take a moment this week to thank a veteran.  Also, don't forget Albany's famous Veterans Day Parade.  This is an amazing event that we are blessed to have in our own downtown.

We will be open regular hours with regular classes and nursery on Thursday, Nov. 11th.  So, don't think you can get out of your workout on this holiday!  Get in here before or after the parade.  And for all of you organized members who are already looking forward to Thanksgiving, here is a sneak peak at those hours.  Thursday, Nov. 25th open 6:00am-12:00pm, Friday, Nov. 26th open 6:00am-4:00pm, Sat & Sun, Nov 27th-28th 8:00am-4:00pm--No nursery or classes.

Don't have enough to do on Thanksgiving day? The turkey and in-laws can wait.  Tell them you have a run to do first.  The Oregon Mid-Valley Road Race starts in our front yard at Rays Food Place and travels up into North Albany.  It is a great Thanksgiving race that kicks off at 8:00am with a 5.2 mile challenging run, 3.75 mile run, and 2.5 mile walk.  See---an option for everyone.  Sign-up soon!  We have a few brochures left at the club or check it out online.  This race is a great excuse to eat more turkey!  We have quite a few already signed-up for this event (lots of bootcamp and cycle class enthusiasts).  Our members are awesome!  Plus you can go to Thanksgiving dinner and brag about how you have already ran a race this morning, nanner, nanner!

Thursday Evening Cycling is back!  Join Daniel on Thursday evenings 5:15pm.

We have had a more Friends and Family Certificates come in... great job members...look for your prizes.  Remember to just ask the front desk for a certificate if you have a friend or family member who is interested in a membership!

This week our SHOUT OUT goes to all of our Weight Watcher attendees.  Those members who have been attending Weight Watchers various meetings have been working out hard, counting their points, and watching those lb's slip away.  Great job.  I think calculating points is really boosting their mental math skills as well.  Don't mess with them about their points either...they are very crazy obsessed with those pts.  They have made eating into a competitive sport; who can eat the most nutritious and filling foods for the fewest points. In addition, to the mental math abilities they are also boosting their memorization skills.  They can tell you the amount of points in EVERYTHING!  It is a real kill joy to go out to eat with one of these crazy, and I mean that with love, Weight Watcher members. Seriously though, they are doing great and look even better!  Way to go guys and gals!!!

That is it for today....remember we miss you when you are gone and love you when you are here....so get here and feel the love!

Go Sweat Smile!!!!

Thanksgiving, really?

It is a balmy 70 degrees out as I write this.  It sure doesn't feel like November, unfortunately I can't deny the calendar much longer.  The year 2010 is drawing to a close and the Holiday season is now squarely in front of us.  With that in mind, many of us are thinking about celebrating the holidays with family and friends.  Some of you are already thinking about Christmas gifts (overachievers), and then there are those of you who are already planning your new years resolutions.  Some may be even planning how to fit in those cute little party outfits for all of those open houses, cocktail and staff Christmas parties.  I think I can help you out with all three of these Holiday issues.

Firstly, the Holiday Guest Fee of $4.00 is now in effect.  All daily guest fees will be $4.00 thru Jan. 1st, 2011.  So bring those out of town guests into the club for a workout, or just to get them out of your hair for a few hours (we promise not to tell them your real plan).  Buy a stack of guest passes and stock-up for the year.  Stick them in your kids stockings, or get the kiddos out from in front of the t.v. during Christmas break.

Secondly,  we have lots of great gift ideas.  Tanning, massage, and membership gift certificates.  I know giving a gym membership as a Christmas gift could be misconstrued.  So, before you get yourself into a tricky situation, make sure it is something they would enjoy, not just something they need.  See?  I really do have your back!  Everyone loves a massage gift certificate and they are great for bosses and coworkers and mother-in-laws who have everything.

Lastly, the trickiest part of all.  Navigating the holiday baking, dinners, and social events, and still fitting into those super cute outfits or those same gym clothes you have been wearing for the last 10 years.  I can say that because some of my gym clothes are older than my kids.  Yikes!  So you need a plan of action, so you can achieve your goal and get a jump on all of those "New Years Resolutioners".  You can meet with Joann and she will give you a super plan to keep you in the gym and on track (ask at the desk or call to make an appointment). In addition, 9:30am Boot Camp class will be starting their Holiday Killers next week.  There will be a list of additional workouts (with a summary) and after you finish one, you check it off.  Now, these Holiday Killer workouts are in addition to your usual workouts, no substituting one for the other)!  Even if you don't take Boot Camp classes you can add your name to the list and keep track of all of your Killers!

I know we all begin to fill up our time with all of the extras that go with the season.  Decorating, shopping, baking, traveling, etc....  Here is a great way to keep your gym time on your schedule...Buddy-Up!!!!  Pick a friend who understands your crazy schedule and have "me" time together at the gym.  You will not cancel on them and they will not cancel on you.....no matter what!  Pick two or three or even four days each week and pinky swear, promise, write a contract, or cross your fingers, whatever it takes to dedicate those days to your workouts!  I promise (I will even pinky swear) that all those things on your lists will still get done, and yet you will feel even better because you got your workouts in too.  Spouses and kiddos across Albany will be happier than ever, because Moms and Dads will be less stressed (yeah that is adult speak for "not so dang cranky"), feeling healthy, and have a much better outlook on life.  So, if not for you, then do it for your family!  Buddy-up today.  Hurry call the friend you want, before someone else gets them.  You don't want to be the last one, do you?

This week I am sending a congrats out to Sonia Ryckman who won the Halloween Guessing Game with a guess of 381 pieces of candy.  The actual amount of candy was 389.  And I saw all of those math equations scratched on your guessing sheets....so far off!!  Just plain old guessing won the loot!

Last thing, I promise, we are doing a fund raiser for St. Mary's Soup Kitchen.   We are taking any monetary donations for their Holiday dinners.  Every donation will get you a turkey to stick on our window.  All of you, know you want a turkey with your name on it, on our window :).  Every new membership initial fee is only $45.00 now and $5.00 of it will go towards the soup kitchen's Thanksgiving dinner.  Thank you members!!!

Thanks for the comments on the blog!  We know who you are and we miss you too!
