Hey Members....Welcome back to all of you who were MIA this summer. The classes are beginning to bulge again. Especially Monday classes--get there early to get your favorite spot or bike. The weekend definitely gives us time to relax a little and begin to plan for the next week, and it looks like most of you are putting your health and fitness goals in your weekly plan. By the end of the week most of us are starting to tire and our shoulders are getting a little lower with each day. When you are starting to tire and feel wore down, that is the time to push yourself to make a trip to the gym. It will make you feel so much better mentally. I promise! I wouldn't lie to you :).
Ok, so enough of the pep talk and shoulder patting, lets talk babies! Yes, I said babies. We seem to be in the middle of a big baby boom right now. We have had 4 new arrivals from our members in the last two weeks and we are still awaiting a couple more little ones. So far, we have had a Sophie, a Hadley, a Ella, and a Gage. Girls seem to have the advantage, 3-1. Congratulations to the new moms and dads out there! We are so excited for each new chapter in your life. A baby is such a blessing!
Babies become kiddos and kiddos remind me of Halloween! This Sunday all of the little critters, monsters, princesses and fairies, superheros, etc.. will be on the prowl for candy. What can really be better than getting to play dress-up and run-around and be rewarded with candy! It is a kid's dream. We will have treats in the nursery on Friday, for any kiddos that want to drop by in there costume during nursery hours. Also, we have the Halloween Guessing Game still going at the front desk. Guess the number of candies in the tin, and you win the tin! Our closest guess was still off by ten, so you still have a chance! We will award the tin to the winner on Friday, Oct. 29th...So guess quick!
Lastly, I am going to put out the word on the Friends and Family Certificates. If you have a friend or family member who wants to join, pick up one of these cards at the desk and they will get a discount on the joining fee and you will get a prize! Really it is a win win win situation. You get a workout buddy and a prize and they get a discount! Yahoo...We all love a deal!
Have a great Halloween weekend! Stay safe, healthy, and warm!

Thank You Members
Hello All,
Well another week has come and gone and the colors of Autumn are finally starting to show here in the Mid-Valley. The weather was crazy! We had sun, we had rain, we had fog, and some days we had all three. The weather was cold, but that didn't hold back our Portland Marathoners and Half-Marathon competitors! They deserve a giant celebratory whoop-whoop! Long distance races take a lot of training and preparation, sweat, and sometimes blood and tears. To make a commitment to yourself and fulfill a goal, is a such an accomplishment. We won't name names, but all of you competitors know who you are. Way to go members!
While we are giving out credit to our fantastic members, I have to say thank you on behalf of our staff and the many members who notice and appreciate the beautiful flowers at the front desk. Tom Turpin a long time member brings us flowers for our front desk. These flowers are colorful, and nearly perfect. Me, being a person with very limited gardening skills, I completely appreciate Tom's talent. Everyday our members comment on the bouquets. So Tom, thank you for giving our members a little piece of beauty to enjoy before they begin their workouts. Also, thank you to the members and staff who brought in produce this Summer and Fall. Even though we have had to drag our staff away from the produce, I think some of the members managed to get their hands on some of it too. Thank you for sharing!
Meet The Challenge only has a about two and a half months left. I know all of you are working hard to earn your points and get your sweatshirts. So, don't forget to mark down those points. Yes, points from activities you do on your own count too!
Cycling classes are beginning to fill-up again. With the weather beginning to turn and the race seasons starting to ebb, those bikes are getting popular again. So get their early and make sure you get your favorite bike. I know a lot of you start to develop a sense of ownership over your bike. I can understand when you spend that much time sitting on the same seat, sweating on it, not to mention the mental cursing you give that poor bike---it begins to feel like a part of you. We love that! We love that you have developed such a habit, that any change causes anxiety and sometimes irritation, we want you to love your bike. So, go ahead be here every day and love and abuse your bike. We give you permission. But, with that in mind please remember that new members are still trying to find the right bike for them, and it is good to share your baby, I mean your bike with other people. So, swallow your irritation and share the love! Join us for cycling on MWF at 9:30am, T-R at 5:15am, and MW at 5:15pm and find yourself a bike to love.

Our First Post!!
Hello Members! We are all feeling pretty hip, here, at the old AAC! We have a Facebook page and now a blog. Who would of thought it? That is one of the things I love about our club, half our members are telling us all the latest trends in technology and the other half haven't even activated the texting option on their cell phones. :) We are an eclectic group and that is one of the things that make us so special.
Well, now that you have all gotten over the shock of our technology achievements, lets see what is going on at the club. First off, Zumba Class (M/W 10:15-11:15) was packed again. Our instructor Sara has really developed a following. So much so, I think I saw a shoving match over spots before class. Just kidding! But seriously all of you who have wanted to check it out but were afraid, it is time to swallow your fears and try. What is their to be afraid of? Failing? You can fail a math test, you can fail your driving test, but you can not fail Zumba!! Give it a try, but get here early or someone will take your spot!!! ;)
Secondly, I would like to give a big "hooraah" to all of our members and staff who participated in Walk For the Cause on Saturday. What a great show of support and sisterhood in Albany. Who knew fitness could be so fulfilling, encouraging, and uplifting at the same time. Well I knew of course (ha,ha), but what a great reminder of what is important in our lives! Way to go Albany and Albany Athletic Club members!
Lastly, I wanted to remind our members to take a look at your fitness routine. We have had some members since 1979. No, that is not a typo...seriously 31 years---you guys really rock! But you don't want your fitness routine to be the same age as your membership, so whether you have been her for 2 months or 30 years, it may be time for an update. Summer is over and some of you have taken some time off (yes, we noticed you have been absent!) and are starting to head back in, which makes it a great time to get a fresh routine. And those of you who have made it here nearly everyday all Summer, we noticed you too (thank you!). You might need a new program too. Our muscles are like our minds, do the same thing too long and it gets boring and isn't a challenge anymore. Our bodies can't improve without us putting new challenges out there for them. So, see Joann or call (541-926-2264) and make an appointment for a program update! And, yes, I know what you are asking, they are FREE. I know the best four letter word ever!
Get out there and have a great week and get into the club for some much deserved "Me" time. Check back soon!
